At dinner, he makes advances on her and is rejected. By acting aloof, she attracts Rocky, whom she invites to dinner at her apartment.
She begins dating Anthony, who offers to marry her and claim the baby as his own. Angie wants romance, with "bells and banjos".Īs an act of independence, Angie moves out of her family home. After meeting her brothers, Rocky decides to "take his medicine" by marrying her. The maturity he shows in doing this brings them closer.
But when he and Angie meet the abortionist, who turns out not to be a doctor, Rocky refuses to let her go through with the dangerous procedure. Rocky and Angie scrape up enough money for the crude backroom abortion. Meanwhile, Angie is being pressured by her older brothers, played by Herschel Bernardi and Harvey Lembeck, to marry the unappealing restaurateur Anthony ( Tom Bosley). She wants the name of a doctor for an abortion. When she tracks him down, he doesn't remember her. Now I am convinced there IS such a thing as “Love at first sight.The film tells the story of Angie Rossini ( Natalie Wood), a salesclerk at Macy's department store who finds herself pregnant after a one-night stand with musician Rocky Papasano ( Steve McQueen). The scenery is wonderful, taking the viewer through Florence. In fact, I purchased it before watching it and haven’t regretted it. This is one of my favorite romantic movies – lighthearted, sweet, and definitely worth watching again. She’s made no plans to fall in love, but by accident, meets Hugo and her life won’t ever be the same.
Marilu Henner is wonderful as Victoria, a widow who now treats her very successful business like a marriage to minimize her loneliness. At first, he comes across as a “kook” but as the movie progresses, he emerges as quite the romantic leading man. He also speaks Italian with such ease that the viewer wonders if he truly knows the language (no stutters or simple phrases – we’re talking complicated dialogue w/flawless accent). Daniel Massey delivers most of the humor in this movie, and he does it well. From the moment I saw Hugo De Lacey (Daniel Massey), I loved him. Love with a Perfect Stranger, I saw this movie and I LOVED it.
